Trauma & PTSD

Sometimes the past doesn’t stay in the past. A sound, a smell, or even a thought can pull you right back into a moment you never wanted to relive. You might feel on edge for no reason, go numb when things get too heavy, or find yourself reacting in ways you can’t fully explain. You’ve probably told yourself you should be over it by now, but your body and mind are still working hard to keep you safe.

Trauma changes how you see yourself, other people, and the world around you. It can make trust feel risky, rest feel impossible, and connection feel far away. You may struggle to concentrate, have trouble sleeping, or feel detached from your emotions. These reactions aren’t signs of weakness, they’re signs of survival.

I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.

— Carl Jung

In therapy, we’ll work gently and intentionally to help your nervous system find safety again. We’ll move at your pace, using trauma-informed approaches like EMDR, parts work, and grounding techniques to help you process what happened without becoming overwhelmed by it. Parts work allows us to get to know the different sides of you - the protective parts, the hurting parts, and the parts that still carry fear or shame - so that instead of fighting them, you can begin to understand and integrate them.

As your system learns that it’s safe to let go, the memories start to lose their grip. The hypervigilance softens. You begin to feel present in your own life again, able to rest, connect, and trust yourself in ways that once felt out of reach. Healing doesn’t erase the past; it changes your relationship with it. Not because what happened stops mattering, but because it stops defining you.
